![]() Good Sales Don't Just Happen - They're Managed Carnation Farm Complete Dispersal The final chapter of one of the greatest stories in breed history was written on Saturday, January 17, 2004. A large crowd of dairymen gathered on the hillside of the most recognized farm on the planet, to participate in this historic event. Sale manager Tom Morris opened the sale with a tribute to the hundreds of employees who gave their time, talent, energy, and sweat during the past century to make Carnation the 'Home of Contented Cows.' This group included several of the industry's highest profile and most influential people of their time. As the sun set on the Snoqualmie Valley, the final animal was escorted to the ring by herd manager John Hamann; Tim Gates, Director of the Nestle Training Center; and Elbridge Stuart, representing Carnation's founding family. The top seller of the day at $7400 was Lot 6, a VG-87 fresh Charles daughter backed by 8 generations of Excellents from the Corry family. She had been successfully flushed, with several daughters selling who commanded a lot of attention, including Carnation Closure. The Kamms of Nova Holsteins in Baldwin, WI added her to their powerful lineup.Natalie & Mia Berry of Tigard, OR bid $6400 to take the crowd favorite home. Cataloged as Lot 12, this Leduc second-calf heifer was from a VG-89 1207F dam from 8 solid generations of Excellent Corrys. Ocean View Farms of Windsor, CA purchased Lot 1, the VG-87 Carlton daughter with 34,840 3.9 1342 @ 3Y and making a bigger record at 4Y. This silky dairy machine is a maternal sister to the high seller with 8 Excellent dams and brought $6000. A VG-86 Durham due with her second calf in May to Inquirer was the fourth high seller. Her EX-3E GMD DOM dam was one of the fantastic daughters of Rockalli Miss Della Queen EX GMD DOM of Roylane fame. Ferdi Seeuws, Bremer Holsteins, of Sheldon,WI gave $5600 for the right to develop this exciting young cow. Gilbert and Robert Teixeira, Turlock CA hand selected a sensational Durham daughter due in April for $5100. Her dam, Lot #1 Carlton Cassy, is headed to Ocean View. |
