![]() Good Sales Don't Just Happen - They're Managed Castleholm Complete Dispersal The huge big top was overflowing with buyers, friends and well-wishers at the Castleholm Complete Dispersal. Held on September 15th at the beautiful Castleholm farm outside of Mondovi, WI, the 163 head of Holsteins averaged an impressive $3484. Add a dozen heifer calves averaging $1983 plus embryo lots, the sale reached a total of $617,775. Topping the sale at $40,000 was the breed's first 13th generation Excellent, who was purchased by Kingsmill Farm II, adding to their excitement at Raleigh, NC. Her only daughter, a stylish year old Stormatic was chosen by Dan Peterson and Associates of Plum City, WI for $20,000. The 3rd member of the family offered was a powerful Gibson daughter that is a maternal sister to the high seller. Moss Oak Farm at DeForest, WI gave $10,000 for the opportunity to develop her. Ranking as 3rd high seller at $10,800 to Arlin Buttke of Randleman, NC was another sensational Gibson heifer from 5 VG and EX dams, four of which were GMD DOM. She was carrying an ultrasounded female September Storm due in December from the high selling 13th generation EX. Sale manager Tom Morris opened the sale with a tribute to his friend, Doc Castleberg, who was one of 8 brothers who grew up on a family dairy farm and then went on to medical school. He returned home to Durand, WI, hung out a shingle and developed a thriving practice for the next 30 years. He cared for thousands and thousands of people and delivered thousands of babies, and not only served as their doctor, but was truly their friend. His love for farming and the thrill of breeding Registered Holsteins kept him involved in the dairy industry for more than 30 years. The herd has been under the management of Marty Castleberg, his younger brother, for several years and his skills and dedication certainly were evident sale day. The sale was managed by Tom Morris Ltd, with Tom auctioneering and Sandy clerking, assisted by Roger Turner, Scott Courtney, Don Mayer, Paul Trapp, Jr, Scott Culbertson and Norm Peterson. The cattle were presented by Katie Bue, Dan Peterson, and Mike Castleberg. Friend and neighbor Eddie Bue put together an all-star crew to beautifully prepare the large lineup. Everyone enjoyed a complimentary lunch throughout the sale.
