![]() Good Sales Don't Just Happen - They're Managed 2004 World Classic The 2004 edition of the World Classic certainly lived up to its billing as "a limited offering of the world's most sought-after Holstein genetics". As usual, a huge crowd of Holstein enthusiasts from throughout the world gathered on the colored shavings in the coliseum on Friday evening, October 1st at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, WI. The forty lots of females averaged a record shattering $14,720. Well over one-half of the lots commanded over $10,000, with none selling under $5000, and going to buyers from 12 states and three foreign countries. A stunning November '03 red daughter of September Storm, who stood 3rd in the International Red & White Show the evening before and where her dam was named Res Sr Champion, was selected by Starmark Holsteins of Wooster, Ohio for their exciting herd. Backed by six generations of EX dams from the Blackrose family and consigned by Rosedale Holsteins at Deerfield,WI, she was struck off at $50,000. Close behind at $45,000, consigned by Wendorf, Armbrust, and Hetts, was a beautiful Summer Yearling by Champion from Lee Alice, the VG-89 All-American Jr 2 Yr Old in 2003. She became the property of the Angels in Heaven Syndicate of Green Bay, WI. The World Classic spotlighted the "Simply Amazing" full sisters Shoremar S Alicia and Ms Kingstead Chief Adeen, among the most amazing families the world has ever known. Included in the lineup were a dozen descendants of Alicia and Adeen that sold for an average of $15,883, after a spectacular introduction by pedigree expert Horace Backus. The World Classic has been managed by Tom Morris Ltd for more than fifteen years. Tom and Sandy were assisted by the usual World Classic team. Shawn Vanderwal and Brad Carlson from British Columbia headed up the barn crew. Horace Backus made the announcements with Ken Empey, Bob Fitzsimmons, Roger Turner, Rodney Hetts, Brian Garrison, Scott Courtney and Ed Garcia working the ring. Brian Behnke and Niles Wendorf presented the cattle. Patti Hurtgen, Cara Dueholm, Erin Nelson and Moriah Morris assisted with the clerking duties. Moriah, along with Dr. Dave Selner welcomed the large audience with a splendid light and music show. Orion Samuelson was on hand for the pre-sale comments and then Phyllis Agnew, along with daughter Katie and son Tom, did their superb singing of the Canadian and American national anthems. |
